Facilitating Migration to Microsoft’s Configuration Manager 2012

• Tight integration of AdminStudio 11 with Microsoft’s Configuration Manager 2012 accelerates user-centric application management. This integration reduces effort and costs of migration by automating the key steps in the application readiness process.
  • AdminStudio 11 provides enhanced import functionality to help speed your migration to Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012, easing your transition from its previous package-based model to its new application-based model.  Bulk import eliminates the laborious and error-prone task of importing applications manually one at a time.
  • Accurate identification of metadata is crucial for populating Microsoft’s new application model.  AdminStudio 11 gathers application deployment metadata by mining package elements like dependencies.  In addition to metadata, AdminStudio also identifies product level data such as product icon, manufacturer, scripts, etc.
  • AdminStudio offers the option to automatically identify the best candidates for migration to Configuration Manager 2012, eliminating surprises or errors during migration.
  • AdminStudio now has the ability to publish applications to Microsoft’s Configuration Manager 2007 as deployment types; as Configuration Manager 2012 applications; or to bring information over from either versions 2007 or 2012 into the new application model.  This provides the customer with the flexibility to maintain their deployment types or to migrate to the new model at the most suitable pace.

Microsoft Server App-V Application Suitability Testing

• AdminStudio 11 performs automatic suitability testing of packages for Microsoft Server App-V. By identifying conversion issues in advance, AdminStudio 11 helps avoid compatibility problems and enables IT to quickly scope the conversion effort. It also speeds the conversion by allowing IT to focus first on those applications that lend themselves readily to the App-V environment.

Software Tagging Support

• AdminStudio 11 now includes ISO 19770-2 tagging as a standard capability, which enables a more efficient software asset management and license optimization process. The ISO tag file contains accurate descriptive information on the application (publisher, name, version, etc.) and simplifies the software asset management task by enabling the collection and analysis of the tags to provide an accurate picture of application inventory.

InstallShield Suiting / Wrapping

• Included with AdminStudio 11 Enterprise Edition, InstallShield 2012 Premier edition streamlines the bundling of applications into suites. It handles application dependencies, post-install updates and other issues to minimize the risk of rolling out incomplete packages or packages with out-of-date applications.

Platform (API)

• AdminStudio 11 includes an API that enables users to sequence and orchestrate individual AdminStudio automated tasks to perform higher-level processes such as such as Importing packages, checking for virtualization readiness, converting to virtualized packages, testing packages and distributing to Microsoft’s Configuration Manager . You can use.NET, PowerShell, scripting languages such as VB Script and other industry standards to communicate with AdminStudio, so users can choose the method that best suits your organization’s skill set.

Changes to Pricing and Packaging

AdminStudio purchases will now include the first year of maintenance, customer can select which level of support is required – Bronze, Silver or Gold. In year 2 the renewal is at the customer’s discretion.

Suite Installations:
Multiple products can be easily bundled together into a single, unified suite installation eliminating the need to develop a complex custom launcher or bootstrapper application.

Installation Streaming:
End users will experience an “app store-like” feel by downloading just a small file to quickly start the suite installation.

Installation Collaboration:
The Installation Collaboration feature has been significantly enhanced to better support distributed installation development allowing product developers to create and manage their portion of the installation
The InstallShield Premier edition includes 5 licenses to the new Developer Installation Manifest editor.

New End-User Interface:
An entirely new end-user interface and redesigned, modern built-in wizard pages give full control over installation customization.

• Single uninstaller that works with your main project as well as any other merge modules
• Localization of installer strings–merge modules can now leverage the external resource bundles from the parent as well
• Merge modules that now have installation logs in addition to the parent log files—developers can consolidate the parent and merge module log files. All logging related settings have been consolidated into a single log settings task
• Setup authors can expand 7-Zip (LZMA) and TAR compressed archives on their target system, empowering authors to expand these archives in a fast and reliable manner
• Option to download a JVM from the Internet in real time if the JVM is not found on the end user machine
• Write complex rule expressions (and/or/not) with the application logic

• “Signed” Installations: Support for custom code archives or their dependencies as signed Java Archives (JARS), enabling InstallAnywhere to extract files and make use of Java to verify the signature, thus ensuring the safety of these custom code JARS.
